On Saturday, March 16, Sydney experienced scorching conditions with temperatures soaring into the high 30s and recording its hottest March night in 110 years, with minimum temperatures failing to drop below 25.9°C. Amid the heatwave, the action at Sydney Dragway was even hotter as the Valenhold Racing Slaughter Motorsport Team showcased their determination and skill.
Aiming for Excellence: The Valenhold Racing Journey
The Brisbane-based Valenhold Racing team arrived in Sydney with high ambitions to improve on past performances. Their weapon of choice, a newly upgraded Mk3 Toyota Supra, now featured a Mazworx 3.2L billet block and a Whinberg lightweight crank, new AFIS injectors —major upgrades since the car's last outing. For driver and team principal Ben Slaughter, it was his first time back in the driver’s seat after a long hiatus due to engine development.

Despite early challenges during qualifying, including some teething issues with the new setup, the team ended on a high note with Ben officially signing off his competition license. The Supra clocked an 8.82-second pass at 174 mph in qualifying—short of expectations but enough to prepare for the competition rounds.
Thrills and Challenges on Race Day
In the first round of eliminations, Ben faced Anthony Maatouk from Maatouk’s Racing in his iconic VL GOD. Despite a solid effort, Maatouk claimed victory as Ben crossed the line with an improved 7.55-second pass at 193 mph. Undeterred, the team made adjustments and returned for round two against Eddie Hawach's RX7 from Enviro Racing. A small error caused the Supra to bog down at launch, but it recovered to post an impressive 7.03 seconds at 205 mph—an exciting milestone for the team.

The third round brought a bye run, offering a chance to push for their first six-second pass. After a strong launch, the Supra lifted its front wheels but veered off course. Ben regained control but was forced to ease off after suffering driveline failure—a heartbreaking end to their campaign.
A Day of Growth and Recognition
Despite the setbacks, Valenhold Racing’s efforts were rewarded when they won the "Best Crew Style" award, earning their first billet J trophy. Reflecting on the day, Ben Slaughter expressed pride in his team: “Today has been a testament to the dedication of our crew. The car is showing its potential, and we’re coming back stronger.” "I have been dreaming of winning a Jamboree "J Trophy" since I was 17, these things don't come easy, and I'm very proud of our team to start with this award, there are plenty of teams that deserve the same accolade, it is pretty special"

Ben also extended gratitude to supporters and sponsors including Valenhold, VALC Mining Services, Aletek, WRL Shipping, Ayreton Industries, Haltech, Gulf Western Oil, and others who contributed to their success. With a big shoutout to the Haltech Track Support team of Mitch Smith and also Blaze Hansen from Blazecraft.

Looking Ahead
With lessons learned and spirits high, Valenhold Racing is gearing up for its next challenge: the prestigious Winternationals. The team’s performance on Saturday not only demonstrated their resilience but also hinted at greater achievements on the horizon.
